Initial Protocol Settings
Making New Settings

This section describes the procedure for making new network protocol settings for Canon devices for which [Not Configured] is not displayed in the device list.

Administrator privileges are required to make new network protocol settings. With Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003, Solaris, or Linux, first log in (log on) as an administrator.
If you are using Windows Vista, and the [User Account Control] dialog box appears when starting NetSpot Device Installer for TCP/IP, perform the following operations.
  • For Administrator users, click [Continue].
  • For Standard users, enter the required Administrator password, and then click [OK].
This section describes all items configurable with NetSpot Device Installer for TCP/IP. Configurable items differ according to device type or device status.
You cannot make new settings for Canon devices that are connected to the network through the router.
For details about how to configure initial settings for a device for which [Not Configured] is displayed in the device list, refer to Making Initial Settings.
To change existing network protocol settings, refer to Changing Protocol Settings.
If the factory default IP address for the device is a valid address on the subnet of the computer where NetSpot Device Installer for TCP/IP is running, the device will be shown in the device list as a configured device even if you have not made the initial protocol settings. To set the protocol for such a device, refer to Changing Protocol Settings. (The factory default settings differ according to the type of device or network board you are using. For details, refer to the documentation provided with the device.)

  1. Select [New] from the [Device] menu.
With Macintosh Mac OS X, the [Login] dialog box appears when you select [New] from the [Device] menu. Input the administrator name and password and click the [OK] button.

  2. In the [Add New Device] dialog box, input the MAC address for the device and click the [Next] button.
Input the MAC address as follows:
    (Example) 00:00:85:13:34:ac
    0000851334ac
    [Add New Device] dialog box

To find out the MAC address of a device, perform a status print for the device or similar operation. To find out how to perform a status print, refer to the manual for the device.

  3. In the [Initial Settings] dialog box, configure each item.
For more information about settings, refer to Initial Protocol Settings.

  4. Click the [OK] button after configuring all the items.

  5. When the "The device has been reset" message appears, click the [OK] button to reset the device. After the device has restarted, the new setting is now valid. When the message "Turn the device off and then on again " appears, click the [OK] button and turn the device's power off and then on again. The new setting is now valid.
After the device has restarted, run [Discover Devices] from the [View] menu to display the device in the list.
Immediately after you click the [OK] button or after you restart the device, the selected device may not appear in the list even if you run [Discover Devices] because the device settings are not complete.
